Frequently Asked Questions

When do we meet?

Our club meets during the academic school year. We meet Mondays through Fridays in the evening. Beyond normal practice, we usually hold speed workouts on the track on Monday and Thursday evenings, as well as long runs on weekends – we’ll share more details on a weekly basis.

Where is the track?

We meet at the gate of the James G. Pressley Track Stadium. It’s located near the ticket office on the northwest side of the stadium.

Still don’t know? We marked the map with a star where we meet!

What are the requirements?

We only have two club requirements: you must be a student at UF, and you must sign the safety waiver before you can practice with us. You are not required to attend a certain number of practices, meet time qualifications, run under a certain time, or pay club dues. Although we love getting to know our members, we understand that life gets busy, and want to be a fun, stress-free space for people to run when they have the time.

How serious are you about running?

As much as we encourage beginners and casual runners to just show up to practice, we are just as dedicated to our more seasoned athletes. Once you start practicing with us, you’ll likely find the group of runners at your pace. Some of them may already have training plans, but you can reach out to our head coach with any personal questions you may have about your own training. You can improve by running the variety of routes we offer at practice, as well as going to Track workouts, Long Run Saturdays, and races.

How do races work?

Our club will compete in roughly five cross country meets and six track and field meets a season, both in-state and out-of-state. Competition is against other schools’ recreational teams and sometimes D-II or D-III teams. Attendance is on a first-come, first-serve basis – not based on ability. The only costs to you are gas for entry fees, in-state travel (split between attendees when we carpool), purchasing an FRC racing singlet, and any purchases you make while traveling. Reach out to our race coordinator for more details.

Do you only run?

There are many ways for our members to get involved with FRC beyond running. Throughout the year, there will be a variety of volunteering opportunities, from helping at local races to spreading our impact outside the running community. We also hold fundraisers, which are fun ways to support our club while hanging out with your FRC friends. Finally, we have club socials, where you can get to know other members in a non-running setting.

Can sprinters join?

Yes! In addition to our long distance team, FRC created a sprint team in 2020. If you want to start or continue your short-distance endeavors, you are welcome to join our sprint team, which holds its own practices and has its own coach.
